Teens: P.R.I.D.E. Classes
The Coastal Health District and its partners offer parents and teens a free course to help them prepare now for a lifetime of safe driving. The program is called P.R.I.D.E. (Parents Reducing Incidents of Driver Error), and a schedule of upcoming courses is listed at the bottom of this page.
Driving is a huge responsibility, and can be especially dangerous for teenagers. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15- to 20-year-olds. In 2004, 3,620 drivers age 15 to 20 were killed, and an additional 303,000 injured, in motor vehicle crashes in the United States.
That's why families need to make sure they're prepared before their teens get behind the wheel. The free, two-hour course is designed to help parents and new drivers, ages 14-16, learn what they need to do during the 40 hours of supervised practice driving time. This is a program that addresses driver attitude, knowledge and behavior, rather than a technical hands-on driver training course.
