Services List: DNA Paternity Testing
The Coastal Health District offers DNA paternity testing at the laboratory inside the Chatham County Health Department. The test costs $450. An oral swab is used to collect the DNA specimen, and can be done at the lab at 1395 Eisenhower Drive in Savannah. Appointments are preferred, but not required, and can be made by calling 912.356.2148. Results are usually available in 7 business days.
If the alleged father is not available for any reason, the client will need to call the lab for possible testing instructions 912-356-2148. If the child or the alleged father is in another city or state, the lab can arrange for the sample collection at their city of residence. The mother must bring the child if the father is not on the birth certificate or does not have court papers stating he pays child support. The mother and father have to bring a picture ID and the child's birth certificate. If the child has just been born, the mother can bring the proof of birth from the hospital.
