Services List: Diabetes Program

Our health departments can detect and help treat diabetes. We provide:

Assistance with medications
Teach insulin injection
Education on how to monitor glucose levels
Nutrition and diet counseling
Ongoing patient education

With diabetes leading to other health problems, we include yearly referrals for eye exams and foot screenings as well as detection and treatment for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. These health department services are provided to people on limited income with no insurance coverage. Fees are based on the patient’s ability to pay. Proof of income is required

If you do not receive services at the health department, please contact your doctor for the recommended additional screenings.

Diabetes can affect anyone, at any age. If you have a close family member with diabetes, we recommend that you get tested. Symptoms to watch for are frequent urination, excessive thirst and fatigue. Diabetes cannot be cured, but it can be controlled with proper medication and diet and exercise.
