News: Liberty County Health Department and Fort Stewart Team Up to Provide H1N1 Vaccine to Liberty County School Students

January 21, 2010 - The Liberty County Health Department and Fort Stewart Department of Preventative Medicine will work together to vaccinate as many Liberty County school students against the H1N1 flu as possible.

H1N1 flu vaccination clinics will be held in all Liberty County schools, including the Pre-K Center, in early February. Representatives from Fort Stewart Preventative Medicine will vaccinate military dependents and Health Department staff members will vaccinate civilian students.

"The H1N1 flu is still circulating in our community and we could easily see another wave in the near future," said Liberty County Health Department Administrator Deidre Howell. "We're excited about working in conjunction with Fort Stewart and the Liberty County School System on this massive vaccination campaign."

Vaccine information statements and consent forms will be sent home to parents early next week. Both military and civilian consent forms will be sent home with each student. Parents are asked to complete the appropriate form and return it to the school as soon as possible.

"Vaccination is still the best way to get protection from the H1N1 flu," said Howell. "We are trying to make it convenient for students to get vaccinated by literally bringing the vaccine to their classrooms."
