Travel Vaccinations and Medications

If you’re traveling internationally, planning ahead is essential as some countries require specific vaccines for entry. The Chatham County Health Department and the Glynn County Health Department offer travel health services including vaccinations, recommended prescriptions, and and information on staying healthy while traveling outside of the United States.

It is very important to plan ahead. Most vaccines require about 15 to 30 days to provide full protection. Some vaccines must be given at least 10 days prior to travel or you will not be allowed to enter the country. Some prescription treatments, like those to prevent malaria, must also begin before you travel. Other prescriptions, like those to treat traveler’s diarrhea, should be filled prior to departure.

Visit the Traveler’s Health page of the CDC website to research travel requirements and recommendations for your destination.

Travel health services are available in Chatham and Glynn Counties by appointment only. Travel appointments can book up a few weeks ahead of time, it is best to call to schedule an appointment as soon as you know your dates of travel, and at least one month before your trip.
